After 42 operational seasons (1977-2018), the Galerie Bovary Automatons Museum shuts its doors.
Weary of the multitude of new mandatory standards in France, laid each new year by technocrats who do not have the slightest idea what real life is, we’ve decided to say goodbye.
We simply want, on behalf of all those who have contributed to the great success of this museum, especially its creator, without whom nothing would have been possible, monsieur MICHEL BURGAUD, to thank all visitors with all our heart.
A big thank you to all the fans of automatons, of Flaubert, and of madame Bovary.
25,000 people per season visited the museum.
A big thank you to the one million visitors during these 42 years.
Maybe it’s not quite goodbye.
Who can predict what will happen tomorrow.
It is with a somber heart that I put an end to these few lines and 42 years of incredible adventures thanks to you.
The traditional workshop.
The places to know 20 km around:
(culture, diversions, sport, gastronomy, special children, etc...)
Documents concerning Flaubert and his links with "His" characters
In parallel, the village today.
Postcard collection, essaying a reconstitution of the past.
Objets from the past, in particular the store front and the counter of the pharmacy Homais, Fully preserved and restored.
Major scenes from the novel with animated puppets.
An exhibition of many store windows (exposed in the whole of France for 50 years)
More than a museum, a place to relax...
A probe into the origins of a tragic masterpiece, this is sure, but even more, and with the animated models, a glimpse at the great scenes from the novel...
And then, upstairs, with the animated windows, the occasion to relive with the children, this wide eyed wonder they show at Christmas in front of the shops windows...
Later, after the visit, the pleasure to take a rest in the park, listening the quiet sound of the river.
Maybe also the beginning of a visit in the borough and neighborhoods to discover the places described once by Flaubert, where his heroes lived, suffered, and died.
Cultural Center (open 1977).
(Private museum, association law 1901)
It gives to the borough its touristic repute.

presented by 300 moving automatons.
Starting from the school: "We were in the study..." etc....
Passing through the wedding banquet, the agricultural show, to the death of EMMA and that of CHARLES.
Everything here is artisanal, from the mechanics to the paintings, and including the costumes, and has been realized by Michel Burgaud and his family.
You will pass by the life sized pharmacy of the famous JOUANNE son (the original character for HOMAIS), this is the original old dispensary of RY (now in the museum).
On the first floor, enjoy the exhibit of 200 automatons in action, in scenes from around the world: ALI-BABA, ESKIMOS, SPAIN, France with it FIRE BRIGADE...
Before leaving for the park, to sit quietly, to dream at the water edge, lets have a look in a room at some authentic documents where specialists and the curious will find confirmation of the parallel BOVARY-DELAMARE.
And, not to forget that the profession of the creator of this museum is clock and watch repairing:
Horlogerie-Bijouterie Burgaud (since 4 generations)
